MARSHFIELD, Mo.--Motor cycle enthusiasts and Marshfield firefighter supporters were out in force today to raise money for the Matt Blankenship Memorial Scholarship, June 7.

This year the group says that they were continuing the tradition in honoring their fallen friend Lt. Matt Blankenship who died in the line of duty in July of 2013.

“At request of the family we will continue the tradition in memory,” said David Steffensen, coordinator of the poker run. “Funds will now go to a cadet training with the Marshfield fire department so that they can continue their training.”

The event featured a poker run, a DJ playing music, refreshments, and prizes.

“In the fire industry and the biker community we are all brothers. We have decided to do it every year in honor of our brother because he was a brother to us,” said Steffensen.

Last year the group reported an outstanding turn out with five to six hundred bikers showing their support but Steffensen says that the weather has hurt the event a little this year.

“We will never forget what happened. We will never get over it 100 percent. We are doing this in memory of him,” says Steffensen
