SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Missouri State junior righty Nick Petree was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 9th round of the MLB Amateur Draft on Friday.

Petree, who went undrafted after a stellar sophomore campaign, has until July 13 to decide whether to sign with St. Louis, or return to MSU for his senior season.

The Clinton native is one of the most decorated players in Bears history. He's the only player in MSU to earn All-America recognition three times.

In 2012 Petree finished with a 10-4 record, and the best ERA in the nation (1.01). He was named the Collegiate Baseball Louisville Slugger Player of the Year.

In 2013, Petree was 8-1 with a 1.61 ERA. He is 2nd on the Bears all-time list in both wins (27) and strikeouts (306).

Senior reliever Grant Gordon was also selected in the draft, going in the 10th round to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Gordon, from Salem, earned four of his 12 career saves this season while posting a 3.66 ERA.
