Volleyball, dodge ball - these were the games we would play in p-e when i was in school. But not any longer.  Kids these days are getting a much more well rounded experience

P-e teachers --- faced with the nationwide childhood obesity epidemic -- are now kicking it up a notch.

Across the nation - gym teachers are now turning to the latest fitness trends to tackle the battle of the bulge in kids.

The emphasis now is not just on getting kids active: But setting them up to love - and stay in love with fitness their entire life.

Instead of focusing on team sports - teachers are now turning to more individualized sports. Things that students can continue outside of school on their own like:  Yoga, golf, spinning class, meditation and rock climbing

Many schools are also turning to social media and new technology to help kids make fitness a lifestyle. Some schools are giving students pedometers and heart rate monitors - so students can understand how movement affects well-being.

And this is sorely needed. 17% of kids from age 2-19 in our country are obese. Only 25% of kids met the national fitness recommendations.
