Nixa shuts out Kickapoo In playoff soccer & Springfield Cardinals open homestand with victory
SPRINGFIELD, Mo--The Springfield Cardinals are back in town after a Texas road trip through Midland and Frisco.

And the boys are back home for 14 of the next 19 games.

In town, the Midland RockHounds, the Double AA affiliate of the Oakland A's.

Springfield split their six game road trip, but took two of three from Midland last week.

And Jonathan Cornelius starts things off by getting Max Muncy looking at strike three to end the first inning.

Springfield hitting into some bad luck in the bottom half, Rafael Ortega grounds this to first, Muncy starts the old 3-6 double play.

Then Drew Granier gets Jonathan Rodriguez with the check swing strikeout to end the threat.

The Cards get something going in the third, Jacob Wilson with a single here to left, to put two on.

Then Patrick Wisdom takes this deep to left, over the Cox Health sign and gone, a three run shot, it's 3-nothing Springfield.

That's when the rain came and held things up for just a bit.

That didn't dampen the Cards spirits, as Springfield wins 4-1.   


In Major League baseball, St. Louis shuts out the Yankees, 6-0 in St. Louis.
And Kansas City falls to Houston, 3-0.


SPRINGFIELD, Mo--Tuesday's thunderstorms postponed a number of high school playoff baseball games.

But the rain did not put a damper on high school soccer sectionals.

At Kickapoo the Chiefs hosted Nixa in a girls state sectional.

And it was 1-nothing Nixa in the second half, Bailey Pesek with the left footed boot, wide right.

Kickapoo trying to even it up, Miriam Melugin with the pass to Alyson Reinhold, her shot is stopped by Nixa's Anna Gregory.

Nixa with another opportunity, again it's Pesek this time her shot is wide left.

The Eagles would add to their lead when Alyson Galler feeds Payton Dehart, she one times it in, 2-nothing.

And Nixa goes onto win 4-0 will host Jefferson City on Saturday.

In other soccer playoff action, Springfield Catholic beats Osage 5-one.

And Willard loses to Carl Junction 5-0.
