Morning Sports Report - April 1, 2014

Opening day of Major League Baseball brings a mixed result for Missouri's premier teams. And Branson comes to town to face Glendale in high school baseball. Megan Rice has your Tuesday morning sports report.

CINCINNATI, Oh--Baseball is officially here in the Major Leagues. Opening day for the Cardinals took place on the road against the Cincinnati Reds, Monday.

Cards started Adam Wainwright in the opener.

We pick it up in the bottom of the fifth. To lead off the inning Reds Brayan Pena drills one in the gap but Peter Borjus covers a lot of ground to close that gap, can't make the play though. Pena goes to second on the Borjus error.

Then, the rest of the inning it's Wainwright time. He fields the bunt and gets Pena the lead runner out at third for the out. But there's more. Wainwright nasty stuff, strikes out Brandon Phillips to end the inning. He had 9 k's in 7 innings of work.

Not much offense in this one until right on cue Yadier Molina, get's enough of that one. Solo home run in the top of the 7th gives the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.

And the Redbirds hang on and win it 1-0.

DETROIT, Mi--The Royals opened up their season on the road as well taking on the Detroit Tigers on Monday.

James shields getting start for KC.

Bottom of the second Victor Martinez rocks one to right. That's a good first at bat of the season. Tigers up 1-0.

Top of the fourth, Royals Salvador Perez doubles to deep left. Alex Gordon scores to tie it at one. Perez went 4-4 with two doubles and an RBI.

But in the bottom of the ninth, tie game at 3. And Alex Gonzalez with the walk-off base hit. Tyler Collins scores.

Royals fall 4-3.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo--The Parkview Vikings hosting the Branson Pirates.

Top of the first Lake Keller ropes one into the outfield for the RBI. That gives Branson a 2-0 lead.

But Coltin Smith gets Dylan Newberry to strike out swinging to stop the damage. Branson led 2-0 after one.

Smith doing it again on the mound in the second. This time it's Hayden Gibson taking a seat after the K.

Later, Vikings Jody Guynn with a stand up double.

But Branson goes on to win it 8-4.
