Morning Sports Report - July 15, 2014

Adam Wainwright is tapped to start on the mound for the NL in tonight's All Start game. And signs of the KC Chiefs showing up at training camp. Here's our Tuesday morning sports report.
MINNEAPOLIS, Mn--The 85th annual Major League Baseball All-Star game will be Tuesday night in Minneapolis.

Monday the All-Stars met with the media and then took to Target Field for batting practice.

St. Louis manager Mike Matheny is the National League skipper, and named his ace Adam Wainwright to start the game.

Wainwright is 12-4 with a 1.83 earned run average.

He also leads the National League with three complete games.

Back in late May, Wainwright threw his first career one hitter against the Diamondbacks.

Wainwright's first pitch will be to the retiring Yankee Derek Jeter, those two squaring off for the first time ever.

"Aside from having the ability to win two World Series with the St. Louis Cardinals, this has to be one of the highlights of my baseball career to this point," said Adam Wainwright.  "Just one of the coolest things I can say I did was to start a big league All-Star game.  I'm just incredibly happy and fortunate to be placed in this situation.  I can't wait to go out and hopefully lead our National League squad to a victory."

On the American League side of the ledger, it's going to be Seattle Mariners ace Felix Hernandez starting the all-star game.

Hernandez is 11-2  with a 2.12  earned run average.

He becomes the first Venezuelan pitcher to start an All Star game.

And Hernandez becomes the second Seattle pitcher to star an All Star game since Randy Johnson did it in 1995 and 1997.

And Hernandez will be throwing to Kansas City catcher Salvador Perez who will get the start for the AL.

Hernandez is thrilled to get the start.  "Thank you John.  It's just an honor to be here and be a part of the All Star classic.  It's always fun.  I just have to do what I have to do, throw zeros.  And help my team to win."
