Morning Sports Report - August 25, 2014

Soccer in the heat for MSU's mens and womens teams. And the Cardinals endure the heat to beat the Drillers. Here's you Monday morning sports report.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo--There was double header action at the new Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium Sunday. In the night cap it was Men's team taking on Missouri Valley College.

First half action, Michael Lightborne send it towards the net. And the header goes over the cross bar. Still no score.

Later in the half a good look for the Vikings George Limbert but nicely defended by Robbie Oslica. No shot on goal.

Still in the first another chance for the Bears. James Fawke passes to Ryan Burnyeat who turns and fires but can't find the back of the net.

Before the half Brandon Besong sends it around the box. Jack Roberts can't get a good foot on it.

It was 0-0 at the half.

But the Bears would go on to win it 1-0.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo--The Lady Bears hosting Utah State Sunday morning.

In the second half, MSU up already 1-0 and looking for more. The free kick here and just wide on the header. Still 1-0.

Later in the half, Brooke Zimmerman sends this one from the corner and Molly Huber fights for the goal. Missouri State up 2-0.

Then, a break away attempt here for the Aggies but Jessica Perry with the deny.

Perry and the Lady Bears shut out the Aggies winning 2-0.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo--The Springfield Cardinals were originally slotted for a two o'clock start against the Drillers Sunday but the heat pushed this game back to five o'clock.

The Cards 63-67 on the year.

In the first inning Taylor Featherston crushes this solo homer towards right. Wasting no time in this one. It's 1-0 drillers.

But Kurt Heyer comes back strong. He gets Trevor Story to strike out swinging. He had six k's in the game.

Later, Ryan Arrowood with a strong outing on the hill. Gets Patrick Wisdom. Arrowood went for five innings with four k's, no hits and a walk.

Then, the Drillers Brian Humphries hits one to Curt Smith and nice hustle by Heyer to get the out at one.

In the fifth, the Drillers are back for more. Chris O'Dowd cranks a gapper. Joey Wong and Delta Cleary, Jr. score.

Drillers win it 5-0.
