GREAT NEIGHBOR: Ozarks Man Stands Out for Lending a Hand

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- It never hurts to have an extra hand especially when times get tough. Whether its shoveling snow, replacing light bulbs, for many people its the small things that count.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- It never hurts to have an extra hand especially when times get tough. Whether its shoveling snow, replacing light bulbs, for many people its the small things that count.

KOLR10’s Brett Martin is shining the spotlight on some of those great neighbors who are too humble to accept anything but a thank you.

For Christina Cordova Rodriguez, its tough having kids and a husband who travels for work.

"He's out of town at least a week every month so we look out for each other," says Christina.

Doug Kahler lives  right across the street and it makes a huge difference.

"He comes over and helps with our animals, our cars and our business sometimes."

Christina says its not all replacing leaky faucets but, also being from Colorado, its like having a second family.

"He's always lending a hand, gives good advice when I need it, my dad lives out of town in Colorado so Doug is kind of like the dad I have across the street."

Doug says he is a jack-of-all-trades so he does not mind helping out.

"I do what I can do, you know people from the city move out to the country, they just need a little help," says Doug.

He says helping out keeps him young and busy.

"One it keeps my mind working, two its just if I can, I can, its not an important thing, Its just something I've always done."

He says we can all use a helping hand every once in a while and it helps him learn new ways of fixing things around the house.

"Everybody's got a problem. You get a different outlook out of it when you've asked somebody else and you get a different opinion when you try to fix it."

As for Christina, she says she is grateful for having such a great neighbor right across the street.

"He's a great guy and has a great wife, I mean they won't take money, they help us with things all the time and we do the same, we help them too."
