NLCS: Cardinals One Win Away From World Series

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The St. Louis Cardinals crushed the San Francisco Giants, 8-3 in Game Four of the NLCS Thursday, to take a 3-1 series lead.

Game Five is Friday at 7 p.m., CT. With a win the Cardinals would clinch their second-straight National League Pennant, and face the Detroit Tigers in the World Series.

St. Louis jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after a Matt Holliday single and an Allen Craig sac fly off of Tim Lincecum.

Hunter Pence hit a solo home run off of Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright in the second inning to make it 2-1.

But Wainwright settled down, throwing seven innings, and striking out five. He gave up four hits.

The Cardinals broke the game open in the fifth inning with RBI singles by Holliday and Yadier Molina to make it 4-1.

In the sixth, Jon Jay made it 6-1 with a two-run double to right centerfield. Lincecum went 4 2/3 innings. All six runs were earned.

Molina and Pete Kozma drove home runs in the seventh to make it 8-1.

Pablo Sandoval hit a two-run home run off of Fernando Salas in the top of the ninth to bring the score to 8-3.

Lance Lynn (1-1, 8.59) will start for St. Louis in Game Five. Lefty Barry Zito (0-0, 6.75) gets the ball for San Francisco.
