Nixa Mauls Republic Tigers

Nixa beats Republic 59-39.
REPUBLIC, Mo--Friday night boys basketball had a big time showdown in Republic.

The 18-2 defending state champion Tigers hosting 15-4 Nixa.

As you said Republic won the state title in Class 4 last season.

And Nixa having some state success not too long ago either.

Two years ago they took second at state in Class 5.

So a battle here between two teams that have been getting it down in the postseason as of late.

The Tigers 18-2 on the season but the Eagles would come out flying as Jacob Ruder hits the three.

Sorry fans the Eagles keep soaring, here is Bryce Dulin with the nice basket, puts Nixa out to a 7-nothing start.

Republic starts hitting from three point land, Brock Yocum makes it 18-7.

It's back to back threes for Republic as Canyon Smith swishes it, 19-10 Nixa still up.

Then Nixa's Dulin misses but Wes Middleton too strong inside and the put back, 23-12 Eagles on top.

Republic's Smith hits the three here at the buzzer to end the half to make it 32-20 Nixa.

But then Nixa would pull away in the second half, Jacob Ruder with another catch and shoot three, the kid's automatic.

And Nixa goes onto win 59-39.

"We knew it was going to be a great game so we came out with a lot of energy especially on the defensive side," said Nixa junior Jacob Ruder.
And that led to our offense.
I was feeling it tonight and my team did a great job of finding me when I was open.
My team did a great job of distrupting the ball and they happened to fall tonight.
They were a great team even though we were class five.
They're one of the best teams in the area, if not the state.
So it was a great win even if it was by 20."

And both these teams will be back in action Tuesday the 18th.

Nixa will host Ozark.

While Republic will host Willard.
