New President Takes Over at Evangel

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The first woman president of Evangel University in Springfield is on the job today. This is the first official day at work for Dr. Carol A. Taylor, a 1973 graduate of the university.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The first woman president of Evangel University in Springfield is on the job today.  This is the first official day at work for Dr. Carol A. Taylor, a 1973 graduate of Evangel.

She succeeds Dr. Robert Spence who retired Wednesday after 40 years with the university.  Taylor is just the fourth president of the school, which was founded in 1955.

Dr. Carol A. Taylor first official day as President of Evangel University.  She takes over during a busy week.  This is graduation week and Taylor is hosting a reception for undergraduates and their families after a 3pm Baccalaureate ceremony.

Graduation is Friday at 9:30 am at James River Assembly in Ozark.

According to a news release issued by the university Thursday; Dr. Taylor earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Evangel in 1973. She later earned a master's degree in cross-cultural communication from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary at Evangel, and a Ph.D. in multilingual/multicultural education from Florida State University.
