OZARK, Mo. -- A former Evangel graduate is the now the university's new president and she spent her second day on the job handing out degrees.

Dr. Carol Taylor is the fourth president to serve at Evangel since the school was founded in 1955.
She's also the first woman to serve as president.

Dr. Taylor was formerly the president of Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, California.

She says she's excited about all that lies ahead for Evangel.

"We Continue to look at moving the university forward and building on the incredible work of Dr. Spence over the last 40 years...There's still a couple of open spots on the campus that we have plans for.  So, I'm excited to engage with the faculty and board to see what God has in store for us at Evangel."

595 degrees were handed out this morning at James River Assembly Church in Ozark.

Dr. Taylor replaces Dr. Robert Spence who spent 40 years as the school's leader.
