SPRINGFIELD, Mo. --Springfield police release the name of the man who was shot in an early morning robbery attempt.

Joe Asberry was shot once after refusing to give money to two men* who demanded his cash.

Police say they were sent to a report of a robbery and shooting call at the Woodgate Apartments on South Ingram Mill Road around 2:30 a.m.

Asberry, believed to be in his 40's, was taken to the hospital with a wound in the upper leg, but was able to talk to police. His injuries are described as non-life threatening.

Lewis Savory says he was staying with Asberry.  Savory says Asberry told him he walked back to the apartment from a nearby convenience store with two people.

"About 2:30 my friend stumbled in the door and said he'd been shot. He was bent over really bad and was in a lot of pain. I asked him...I didn't really believe he'd been shot.  I said 'are you sure?' and he checked and he showed me and he'd been shot in the leg and it looked like it went up into his abdomen. "

Springfield Police Lt. Scott Kamykowski tell KOLR10 no one has been arrested.
