MSU Sees Record Spring Enrollment

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Missouri State University has a record number of students enrolled for spring semester.

According to a release from the university, 20, 473 students enrolled for the spring semester on the Springfield campus, up from 19,919 in spring 2013.

In addition to the 20,473 students on the Springfield campus, 1,667students are enrolled on the West Plains campus.

About 83 of those students are enrolled on both campuses, but were only counted once in the system total.

The unduplicated total of 22,057 is a spring semester enrollment record for the Missouri State University system.

The university is also reporting growth in online courses with a jump to 1,406 enrolled in online classes this semester, up 402 (or 40 percent) from spring 2013.

The growth on the Springfield campus is attributed to students returning from the record fall 2013 enrollment.

Transfer students continue to be a growth category, with 671 new transfers enrolled this semester, a 4.5 percent increase over spring 2013. The university has experienced growth in spring semester transfer enrollment for the past several years, according to the release.

The three departments that experienced the largest numerical increase over spring 2013 were:

•Biomedical sciences, up 90 (15.8 percent)
•Management, up 95 (11.3 percent)
•Finance and general business, up 97 (11.1 percent)
