Springfield Cardinals split a four-game series with NW Arkansas. Defeats for both St. Louis and Kansas City. And Rory McIlroy takes the British Open.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo--The Springfield Cardinals started out their seven game homestand with a win but have dropped their last two games to Northwest Arkansas.

Sunday the Cards with a chance to split the four game series with a win.

Springfield now 44-55 on the year.

In the first inning Johnathon Cornelius gets Nats Orlando Calixte to hit into the 4-6-3 double play.

To the second still 0-0 but not for much longer. Patrick Wisdom hits a high fly ball Curt Smith waits and tags to score. 1-0 Cards up.

Same inning Alex Mejia singles and Breyvic Valera crosses the plate. Springfield now leads 2-0.

The RBI's were contagious in the second. As Johnathan Rodriguez adds to the lead. Rafael Ortega comes home to make it 3-0.

Then Cornelius with the K. He went five innings, with five strike outs and no runs.

Cards win it 3-0.


In the Major Leagues, The Dodgers score in the 9th to beat St. Louis 4-3.

Boston shuts out the Royals, 6-0


A win in World Team Tennis for the Springfield Lasers Sunday.
The Lasers defeat San Diego, 21-15.


And Rory McIlroy becomes just the third golfer of the modern era to win three legs of the grand slam, taking the British Open with -17.
Sergio Garcia and Ricky Fowler tied for second with -15 each.
