More Winter Weather Coming, Only Minor Accumulation Expected

SOUTHWEST MISSOURI -- More winter weather is on the way for Missouri — but nothing like what we got over the weekend. Ryan Kardell with the National Weather Service in Springfield says a weak system will likely produce light snow — less than an inch — along with freezing drizzle.

More winter weather is on the way for Missouri — but nothing like what we got over the weekend. Ryan Kardell with the National Weather Service in Springfield says a weak system will likely produce light snow — less than an inch — along with freezing drizzle.

wx010813A strong system will move through on Friday bringing rain with it, but temperatures will be warmer into the weekend, reaching the 40s and 50s on Sunday.

The National Weather Service Offices are issuing the following forecasts:

St. Louis — Another taste of winter weather is in the offing tonight and Thursday as a weak weather system produces a bit of light snow along with freezing drizzle and drizzle across the region. A winter weather advisory has been issued for the combination of minor snow accumulations as well as a light glazing of ice. A stronger weather system will follow on Friday and Friday night, producing widespread rain across the area. Temperatures will be warming during the remainder of the week, and the warmest temperatures will occur on Sunday when highs are expected to range from the middle 40s over northeast Missouri and west central Illinois to the lower 50s over parts of southeast and central Missouri.

Kansas City — Light snow will be possible this morning across northern Missouri, with only light accumulations expected (under one inch). Additional precipitation will develop across southern Missouri late this afternoon and move into the area tonight and Thursday morning. Light snow and light freezing drizzle will be possible with this activity. Again, overall snowfall amounts will be less than one inch with little to no ice accumulations.

Springfield — Light snow, mixed with freezing drizzle at times, will continue to overspread the area through the evening hours tonight. Total snow accumulations of a dusting to 1.5 inch of snow can be expected, along with a glaze of ice. Winter precipitation, especially the freezing drizzle, will likely result in slick spots on area roadways.
