Moody's Upgrades Issuer Rating for Greene County

GREENE COUNTY, Mo. -- Moody's Investor Service stated that the reasons for the increase included, Greene County being a "regional economic center for southwest Missouri economy [which] benefits from institutional presence of Missouri State University, healthy operating fund reserve levels and modest debt levels and pension liabilities."
GREENE COUNTY, Mo. -- Moody's Investor Service has upgraded Greene County's issuer rating from A2 to Aa3.

According to a news release, the county's General Obligation Limited Tax and appropriation-backed debt were also raised, to A1 from A3.

Moody's stated that the reasons for the increase included, Greene County being a "regional economic center for southwest Missouri economy [which] benefits from institutional presence of Missouri State University, healthy operating fund reserve levels and modest debt levels and pension liabilities." 

Moody's also cited, "sound financial operations marked by healthy reserves" as a key component of the upgrade.

Presiding Commissioner Jim Viebrock said in a statement, "The County has been thru (sic) some very difficult and dark economic times in the recent past and this upgrade from Moody's is a testament to the dedication, hard work, and sacrifice on the part of our employees and all the departments."
