MoDOT Warns Travelers of Tuesday's Winter Weather

SOUTHWEST Mo. – the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has issued a no-travel advisory Tuesday for southwest Missouri ahead of the approaching storm.
SOUTHWEST Mo. – With another bout of rain, sleet and snow possible through the day Tuesday, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has issued a no-travel advisory for the duration of the event.

“For your safety and the safety of our crews, we’re asking that once this storm hits your region of the state, you avoid travel unless it is a dire emergency,” said Elizabeth Wright, MoDOT state maintenance engineer, in a news release. “Snow is predicted to be heavy throughout the day and strong winds will blow the snow around, creating a whiteout effect that makes travel extremely hazardous.”

MoDOT crews are hitting the roads in preparation, however traffic clogging highways, interstates and interchanges can bring efforts to a standstill.

According to a news release from MoDOT, crews will be on the road starting late Monday night to get ahead of the storm.

Crews will do their best through the day on Tuesday to plow roads, MoDOT says, however roads will not be clear until the storm passes.

Major routs will be the first focus of MoDOT crews, and major roads will not be cleared until the storm moves out of the area.

Hills, curves and intersections will be treated with abrasives and lesser-traveled will be plowed as time allows.

MoDOT warns roads will be slick in areas and urges drivers to slow down and expect rapidly changing road conditions.
