Mizzou's Sam Wins Courage Award

Mizzou defensive end Michael Sam wins the Arthur Ashe courage award.
NEW YORK, NY--Former Mizzou Tiger Michael Sam hopes to hear his name this week as the NFL draft takes place in New York City.

He found out Wednesday that he's won the Arthur Ashe Courage award.

That courage award is given to an athlete who transcend's sports and it will be handed out at the espy's on July 16th.

Michael Sam announced prior to the NFL draft that he's gay.

That will make him the first openly gay player in the NFL.

ESPN says the Ashe award goes to Sam because of his courage and honesty that resonates beyond sports.

Michael Sam was the co-SEC defensive player of the year and had 31 solo tackles last season.

He had 11 and a half sacks and 18 tackles for loss.

NFL draft pundits say Sam could get picked late in the draft, or not even at all.

We'll wait and see.
