UPDATE: Man Identified in Manhunt in SW Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Greene County deputies and the Missouri Highway Patrol are searching for a man who ran from deputies late Thursday morning. He is Gary D. Orrick, 41, wanted by the FBI.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Greene County deputies and the Missouri Highway Patrol are searching for a man who ran from deputies late Thursday morning.  He is Gary D. Orrick, 41, wanted by the FBI.

The Sheriff's department Twitter feed announced the search, saying deputies are in the area of Farm Roads 164 and 135, which is S. Golden and Inman Road.

They are looking for a man described as 5'9", 160 pounds, with short hair, wearing a sleeveless yellow or orange shirt, long shorts and has tattoos on his legs and arms.

They identified him as Gary D. Orrick, 41, and said he fled from a deputy earlier this morning in area of the 3100 block of W Roxbury. 

The Sheriff's Department says the Deputy attempted to contact Orrick after observing some suspicious behavior when Orrick ran from him.

Orrick has an active warrant issued from the FBI for Unlawful Acquisition of a Firearm.

Deputies say Orrick should be considered dangerous and not be contacted or approached - please call 9-1-1.

Springfield Public Schools confirm Jeffries Elementary and Carver Middle School are on exterior lock-down as a precaution.

Battlefield police and the Missouri Highway Patrol's helicopter are helping in the search, and a Sheriff's department K-9 unit is also on the scene.
