SPRINGFIELD, MO. -- A 24-year-old Springfield man who admitted to law enforcement investigators that he has been viewing child pornography since he was a child has been charged with 29 counts of possession of child pornography.

According to online court records, Joshua L. Burns was charged in Greene County with the felony counts  after an investigator by the Missouri State Technical Assistance Team, assisting a Lebanon Police Department detective.

A probable cause statement filed in the case states that assistance team member John Pehle first went to an address in Conway with Lebanon Det. H. Fox after a tip to police indicated Burns was downloading child porn through a file-sharing program while he was living in Conway.

Residents at the Conway investigators Burns had moved to Springfield and when confronted at his Springfield address home, the suspect admitted to having two computers in his possession, but would only allow Pehle and Fox to examine his older laptop, which he said was non-functioning.

A third investigator was able to access multiple files of what he described as child pornography on the laptop, according to the probable cause statement. Pehle identified 15 images and 23 videos of child porn on the computer’s hard drive.

Burns was taken into custody and released on $25,000 bond. He was forbidden from having contact with anyone under 17 years of age, using the Internet or possessing any device capable of accessing the Internet.

He is to be back in court at 9 a.m. March 24.
