Local Flu Cases Lowest Since December

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The number of confirmed flu cases in Greene County continue to decline, and is now back below levels not recorded since mid-December.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The number of confirmed flu cases in Greene County continue to decline, and are now back below levels not recorded since mid-December.

The Springfield-Greene County Health Department says 16 cases were confirmed the week of March 2-8.  That's down nearly half from the week before when 30 cases were confirmed.

At its peak, Greene County's flu numbers reached 160 confirmed cases the week of January 26-February 1.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says approximately 5-20% of U.S. residents get the flu each year.

Flu season typically starts in the fall and peaks in January or February.
