Local Driver Marks 4 Million Accident-Free Miles

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Driving safely is stressed around most holidays throughout the year. But for Bob Vallely, it's been essential in his 40 year career with UPS. He has made it through decades on the road, without so much as a fender bender.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Driving safely is stressed around most holidays throughout the year.  But for Bob Vallely, it's been essential in his 40 year career with UPS.

KOLR10 photojournalist John Gerding met up with Bob to find out how he has made it through decades on the road, without so much as a fender bender.

"Well, it's very interesting because you get to meet a lot of people. Usually people are glad to see you because you're bringing them something," Vallely chuckes.  "Yeah, it was smaller a little bit more personal. (Nats). the company was growing a lot. So there was a lot of changes. We had to wear a bow tie and a same browns little different emblem.

They have definitely grown a lot. Bigger vehicles, more tractor trailers, bigger trailers, longer trailers, more packages, haha.  So you definitely have to watch out more what's around you, front and back of you, and beside you, definitely a little more safety involved.

They always taught us the five seeing habits like aim high steering, get the big picture, keep your eyes moving, leave yourself an out, make sure they see you and be aware of all of your surroundings. Drive defensively.  I just feel accomplished something when you driven safe all day get back in and ready to go home."

Bob's driven nearly 4 million miles in his 40 years at UPS - entirely accident free.
