Local Agencies Prepare For Airport Emergencies

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- On Wednesday, the Springfield-Branson Airport held its annual table top emergency drill.

Each year agencies from Springfield and Greene County come together to talk about how they would respond to a potential crash at the airport.

The catch is, they don't know the scenario until they show up for the drill.

“A lot of the agencies are notified that we're doing a table top exercise,” says aircraft firefighter Eric Sanders. “They just don't know what we're doing. We try to pick something different every year. Different airline, different problem that pilot might be having with that aircraft.”

Organizers say the timing of Wednesday’s drill worked well because of an emergency landing at the airport on Monday.

That plane landed without incident, but it gave the agencies more discussion points during the exercise.
