JOPLIN, Mo. -- Joplin leaders are encouraging you to get a final peek at the work of an iconic Missouri painter. The Thomas Hart Benton exhibit is currently on display at Joplin City Hall.

Benton was a Neosho native and artist, and this exhibit marks his 125th birthday. His family loaned the pieces to the city, and this is the final week they'll be on display. Joplin's Convention and Visitors Bureau Director Patrick Tuttle says around 400 people have come to see the exhibit since it opened mid-April.

"Young artists have come in here and been inspired by just little sketches that they've done, that they think may be meaningless. But they see what he has done and how it is displayed. It's got more power to them," said Patrick Tuttle, Joplin CVB Director.

The exhibit will be open to the public through Friday at city hall from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
