Kickapoo Taking Aim At Conference Title

Kickapoo will take a 6-0 record into Friday's game with West Plains.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo-- In three seasons, Joel Wells has turned around the Kickapoo program who host West Plains.
KOLR 10's Nick Carboni is standing by live at Kickapoo with more, Nick.
Been a good couple of years for city schools on Friday nights.
Dorial Green-Beckham at Hillcrest
Last year, the Parkview Vikings started out hot, 6-0.
This year, much like the NFL.
Seems to be the year for the Chiefs
The Kickapoo Chiefs have knocked off two of the three big dogs in the Ozarks conference.
Beating Camdenton in late September and a 49-21 win last week over Hillcrest made the Chiefs 6-0.
Anthony Cooper/Kickapoo quarterback:"We enjoy every minute of it.  Everybody loves putting in work and coming out to practice.  We kind of goof around a little bit.  But everything is serious at the end of the day."
Taylor Simmons/Kickapoo Tight End:"We're really trying to stay together as a team and keep our minds right.  And really push each other to go further."
The Chiefs are ranked sixth in Class Five.
And feature a balanced attack on offense.
Quarterback Anthony Cooper can beat teams with his arm and his legs.
Cooper:"I've been working on my speed a lot.  Working on footwork in the pocket.  And working on my accuracy with a quarterback coach."
Kickapoo features a stable of physical running backs like John Fuchs.
John Fuchs/Chiefs Running Back:"It doesn't really matter to any of us who gets the touchdowns and who gets the yards.  It's just we're trying to win the game.  The offense is really clicking, like last week we had a great game.  Anthony Cooper is throwing the ball great.  And we have a lot of great running backs.  We have great weapons all over the place."
Defensively the Chiefs feel like they can adapt to any offense in front of them.
Layton Harris/Kickapoo cornerback:"We have a lot of speed on this team now.  And it helps to make up for the undersized people on this team.  We fly around the ball.  Everyone has experience we're starting ten seniors right now."
Nick Carboni:"It's been a great start for the Kickapoo Chiefs.  But they have more goals to accomplish this year.  Including a conference championship.  That's something they haven't done in 13 seasons."
"We've been wanting that conference win.  We haven't had it since 2000.  It's been a goal for the last couple of years and now we have the right squad to go out and do it."
