Kickapoo Outscores Nixa For District Crown

Kickapoo beats Nixa 45-14.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo-High school football teams across the state of Missouri were back on the gridiron Monday night as they continue to work their way toward a state title.

It was district championship night.

At Pottenger Stadium Kickapoo and Nixa locked horns.

This was a tight game in the early going, Kickapoo scores first, Anthony Cooper on the busted play goes right, then rolls left, then heaves the ball into the endzone, that's a touchdown to Taylor Simmons and it's 7-nothing Chiefs.

Kickapoo owned the halftime lead.

But Nixa would get on the board in the third quarter, Alec Murphy scores from a few yards out it's 17-7.

Kickapoo answers with Cooper, he throws into the endzone again, this time he finds John Fuchs.

And then the 6-2 senior would throw his third touchdown pass of the game, this time to Simmons again, and Kickapoo goes to 12-and-0 with a 45-14 win.

The Chiefs will play Lee's Summitt West in the next round of the playoffs.

"It's a huge win," said Kickapoo coach Joel Wells.  "A huge win for our program and a huge win for our kids.  They really prepared well all year long and really deserved to win tonight."

"It's amazing.  It's probably the best feeling that I've ever had." said Chiefs quarterback Anthony Cooper.  "I told my mom, other than my wedding day, it's probably the biggest smile you'll see on my face unless we win state.  It's a great win, I'm estatic."
