JOPLIN, Mo. -- A community movement aims at paying it forward to people affected by a tornado in Pilger, Nebraska.

An EF-4 tornado hit the community last week, displacing 200 families.

Thursday Doug Hunt of Joplin announced the launch of "Joplin Loves Pilger."

Through this community movement, he is asking people to send messages of encouragement via the Facebook page "Joplin Loves Pilger".

He's also encouraging businesses to donate $161 dollars in honor of the lives lost in the Joplin, tornado.

He says the idea sprang up after he met with survivors of the Nebraska storm.

"They were so moved and touched by the fact that somebody from Joplin would be there to show support that I just felt the need to bring that back, that message so that we can come together as Joplinites and help the people of Pilger, Nebraska," says Hunt.

The group will present the money to Pilger city leaders once they have a sizable amount.

100 percent of the funds will be deposited into the Pilger Community Development Fund.
