WEST PLAINS, Mo. --  The city of West Plains is hoping people will take to Instagram with a new photography project.

The project, called “I Love West Plains”, is focused on Instagram, the widely popular photo app for smart phones and tablets. Anyone with an Instagram account can post their pictures and use the hashtag #mywestplains to their photos of life in the city. Selected entries could be used to help promote the city throughout the surrounding region, according to Marketing & Tourism Director Todd Shanks.

“Whether you have lived here your whole life or just moved into town, everybody has their own story to tell, and photography is a great way to document that story,”he said. “What makes West Plains special to you? That’s what we want to see. By sharing your pictures of West Plains with us, we feel that’s also the best way to share the city’s story.”

There are no rules or restrictions on who can participate in the project. Images posted with the #mywestplains Instagram hashtag will all be reviewed and considered, said Shanks.

Overall, the project will help support the creative efforts of North Star Destination Strategies, a Nashville-based company which is currently working on a community branding and marketing strategy for West Plains. North Star is considered the industry leader in branding for cities and municipalities, and the results of their efforts should be unveiled in late summer or early fall.
