NASA's Hubble Space Telescope launched nearly 24 years ago.

In celebration of the upcoming anniversary, astronomers captured these amazing images of stars being born.

The pictures come from inside what's called the Monkey Head Nebula, 6400 light-years away from earth.

Think about that.  If you were to get on a military jet and travel at the speed of sound,  Mach 1, it would take you five and a half billion years to get there.  And then you'd have to get back.

That demonstrates Hubble's powerful infrared vision.

The telescope launched April 24, 1990.  It is named for American astronomer Edwin Hubble, who was born in Marshfield, Missouri.
