Heat Advisory This Afternoon for Western Ozarks

CLINTON, Mo. -- The National Weather Service in Springfield has issued a Heat Advisory for counties in the western portion of the Missouri Ozarks.
CLINTON, Mo. -- The National Weather Service in Springfield has issued a Heat Advisory for counties in the western portion of the Missouri Ozarks.

The Weather Service says:

A hot and humid airmass will settle over the region today. Temperatures in the middle 90s combined with dew points in the
Lower 70s will result in heat index values around 105 degrees.

Timing and areas affected...Across extreme southeastern kansas and west central missouri this afternoon.

Temperature...Afternoon highs will climb into the middle 90s.  This combined with dew points in the lower 70s will result in
Heat index readings around 105 degrees.

Impacts...The effects of these hot and humid conditions will lead to an increased risk of heat related illness.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity
Will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible...Reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
Evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when
Possible and drink plenty of water.
