Hammons Field Features New, Old Scoreboard

There's a new manual operated scoreboard at Hammons Field.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo--If you've been to a Springfield Cardinals game lately, you've noticed a new attraction over the visitor's bullpen.

Hammons Field has a new, old time manually operated scoreboard.

It's a replica of the one at the old Busch Stadium and will feature the big league Cardinals scores, along with selected Major League and Texas League games.

It also features St. Louis' World Series championship flags.

The nod to baseball's past is not completely operational yet.

The wet summer delayed construction and some of the small details have to be ironed out.

But it's another unique addition to what's been voted the best minor league ballpark in the country.

"It just brings back the romance of baseball for Springfield.  The fans have absolutely loved it, they're so excited about it," said Springfield General Manager Matt Gifford.  "It's something that will bring the fans a little closer to old time baseball.  Along with closer to the St. Louis Cardinals.  The great thing about it is that people will be able to walk underneath it and see the people up there working and doing the numbers.  I think it's something that fans of all ages will get a kick out of.  Again it's a flashback to what it was like at the old Busch Stadium, old Sportsman's Park, even Fenway Park.."
