SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Carley McGovern, a Camp Barnabas camper of 9 years, will complete her first half marathon on April 13 in Springfield for Camp Barnabas.

McGovern has Cerebral Palsy and is in a wheelchair, but that hasn't stopped her from raising almost $3500 for the Camp Barnabas Camper Scholarship Fund and competing in the Camp Barnabas Big Party Half Marathon and 5K.

McGovern has such a passion for what Camp Barnabas does in the lives of the campers who attend, that she traveled all the way from Maryland to be a part of the event.

With a team of over 50 people, McGovern will be pushed across the finish line in order to raise awareness for people with special needs.

"Barnabas has pushed me beyond my limits and provided opportunities that I never thought possible. My desire is to tell the world about Camp Barnabas so that other people can have a life-changing experience like I did," said Carley McGovern.

The Big Party Half Marathon and 5K event will start in the Mercy Hospital parking lot at 7:45 am with a stroll that will invite Camp Barnabas campers and other individuals with special needs in the community.

The race route through midtown Springfield will include live entertainment and finish at Jordan Valley Park where the whole community can enjoy food, games, and live music.

Camp Barnabas provides life-changing opportunities for people with special needs and chronic illnesses in a Christian camp setting. Camp Barnabas serves 1500 campers, 200 summer staff and 2500 volunteers every summer, in two locations in Missouri.

Over half of the campers who attend Camp Barnabas receive at least a partial scholarship from the Camper Scholarship Fund. For more information about Camp Barnabas visit their website here.
