Springfield Police Department recognizes two witnesses involved in the February abduction of Hailey Owens.

Two families in our community were united by this horrific crime.  Witnesses Carlos and Michelle Edwards sat beside Hailey Owens' family during the award ceremony in their honor.  Hugs, and words of appreciation were exchanged.

Carlos and Michelle Edwards witnessed the suspect throwing Hailey Owens into his truck on West Lombard Street.  The couple immediately took action and attempted to stop the man from taking Hailey.

They contacted citizens in the area and tried to identify the abducted girl.  Although the Edwards' were unable to disrupt the plan, they provided police with an accurate description of the suspect, Craig Michael Wood and his vehicle.  As a result, Springfield P.D. was able to arrest Wood.

"Your actions on the day Hailey Owens was abducted are positive examples of a citizen working with police to solve a tragic and violent crime. Your brave actions are hereby recognized by the Springfield Police Department and the citizens of Springfield with a Citizen Service Commendation.  Congratulations!"

Wood's next court appearance is set for August 26.  He is being held in the Greene County Jail without bond.
