SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A public groundbreaking is scheduled today for the latest redevelopment plan for the former Heer's building in downtown Springfield.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. --  A public groundbreaking is scheduled today for the latest redevelopment plan for the former Heer's building in downtown Springfield.

Dalmark Group plans rental units, 14,000 square feet of commercial space and other amenities, in the historic building on Park Central Square.

The public ceremony is set for noon on Friday, June 20.

The Dalmark plan is the latest attempt to bring life back into the building, long considered to be a cornerstone for a successful, long-term resurgence of the downtown area.
Several other developers have signed on for rehab and rebuilding projects over the past two decades, but none have been successful.

The Heer's Luxury Living LLC project with Dalmark is expected to cost more than $15 million.
