GREENE COUNTY, Mo. – In an announcement on Monday, Greene County Collector Scott Payne says he will not seek another term as County Collector.

"I have appreciated the honor of working as Collector for the past 23 years,” says Payne in a statement. “It has been one of my goals to make the Collector's office the friendliest most helpful office in the courthouse. Also I have really enjoyed the challenge of applying technology to the operation of the office."

In his statement, Payne endorses his chief deputy, who is interested in seeking the position of County Collector.

“This decision is especially timely, because my chief deputy, Leah Betts, who has been a key person in the office for the past fifteen years, is interested in seeking the office of Collector,” says Payne. "If she chooses to run for Collector, Greene County voters will have the opportunity to elect a most capable person and I will heartily endorse her."

Payne was first elected in 1990 and has served as Collector since March of 1991.
