MARSHFIELD, Mo.-- A public meeting is to be held Jan. 25 to discuss the Common Core State Standards for Educators.

The Missouri grass-roots organization Webster County Against Common Core is an open meeting to provide information and discuss the Common Core State Standards Initiative or CCSSI.

The Common Core State Standards Initiative is an education initiative that specifies what level of knowledge K-12 students should have in English and Mathematics in their grade.

Guest speaker Dr. Mary Byrne, State Legislators Mike Cunningham, and Tony Dugger have all been invited to attend the discussion.

Webster County Against Common Core is a grass-roots organization founded in 2013. The group is comprised of concerned parents and grandparents of children in the area school districts. Its goal is to inform local communities and school boards of concerns they have about the standards related to the implementation of CCSSI and to facilitate legislation on the state level to stop it.

Some key concerns about the initiative will be discussed at the meeting.

The meeting is scheduled Jan. 25th at 1 pm in the Hubble Elementary Cafeteria in Marshfield.
