Funeral Times Set For Atwood, Birmingham

Funeral information for two Ozarks sports pioneers who died this week.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo--The Ozarks sports community has lost two pioneers in their respective sports this week.

Long time basketball coach Larry Atwood died Sunday, and Tuesday veteran baseball coach Dick Birmingham died.

Birmingham was 80 years old and had spent 50 plus years teaching the game of baseball at both the high school level and to kids.

He especially liked teaching the game to the younger kids, instructing them during the summers on the correct way to play the game.

Birmingham also represented the United States and baseball in international competition and instructional camps.

The visitation for Dick Birmingham is Friday from 5 to 7:00 p.m. at Gorman-Scharpf, the funeral mass is Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception church.

Visitation for Larry Atwood is Thursday from 5 to 8:00 p.m. at Greenlawn East funeral home.

And his funeral service will be Friday at 12:30 p.m. at Greenlawn East.
