TANEY COUNTY, Mo.-- Propane tanks hindered firefighters in Taney County house fire.

On Feb. 7 at 10:30 pm the Western Taney County Fire Protection District responded to 7946 St Hwy 248 for report of a structure fire.

Upon arrival firefighters found a single family residence heavily engulfed in flames.

According to officials, It took 15 firefighters from four Western Taney County stations several hours to bring the fire under control.

Several venting propane tanks hampered firefighter’s efforts and additional water to fight the fire had to be trucked to the scene.

Hwy 248 was partially blocked for several hours and traffic assistance was received from the Missouri Highway Patrol.

Cold temperatures also made road conditions hazardous at the fire scene and at the water fill sight.

The Missouri Highway Department assisted with spreading salt on Hwy 248 as water used to fight the blaze was freezing on the highway.

The homeowner was home and was able to escape the fire safely. The homeowner originally discovered the fire in the attic of the house.

The Red Cross was on scene to assist the homeowner as they were displaced. The cause of the fire was a faulty chimney.
