MERRIAM WOODS, Mo. -- A fire overnight in an ambulance barn in Taney County destroys two ambulances.

Western Taney County Fire District Chief Chris Berndt says the fire broke out at Ambulance Station #6 in Merriam Woods about just before 1:30.  The crew on duty said they heard a noise in the garage area and found the fire when they went to investigate the noise.   The fire had spread to the point they could not get the ambulances out.

Damage is estimated at $500,000.  Berndt says a state fire marshal investigator believes the fire started from an electrical short in the engine compartment of one of the ambulances.

No one was injured.
