PLEASANT HOPE, Mo. -- A fire destroyed a home in Pleasant Hope Sunday afternoon.
It happened on Farm Road 30 around 3:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon. One person was at home when the fire started but escaped the fire unharmed.
Investigators aren’t sure yet what caused the fire but the homeowner reported hearing some kind of an explosion. There was a space heater in use at the time.
The Ebenezer Fire Chief Nelson Prewitt says it’s always thought to fight fires like this when temperatures are so low outside.
"We shuttle our water in. The valves freeze up on the tankers, so you get back to a hydrant and there are a lot of difficulties. We were able to get here and travel fire and got the fire out quick."
Crews from Ebenezer, Pleasant Hope, Pleasant View, and Fair Grove worked to extinguish the blaze. The home is a total loss.
