SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The weather warmed up for the annual Sunrise Easter Service at Hammons Field Sunday morning.

A few hundred people got up before dawn to celebrate together.

The jubilant sound of trumpets ushered in the sunrise at Hammons Field Easter morning.

The annual non-denominational service brought hundreds to the ballpark before dawn, many of whom make this a family tradition.

"It's just a great opportunity to start Easter off on the right foot," Karen Davis said.

She brings her daughters every year.

"It's kind of a great way to start your morning glorifying God with His great creation of the sunrise and how beautiful it is," Melea Davis said.

Kelly Phillips met her kids at Hammons to celebrate as a big family.

"This is about our third year," she said.

She said attending an early Easter service has been a tradition since she was a child.

"My mom would get us up for sunrise service so we're just trying to continue that tradition," she said.

For some families coming to a ballpark instead of a church for Easter Sunday service could be a new tradition.

"We've never done this, so we are excited," first time attendee Michelle Lewis said.

Lewis brought her niece and nephew for the first time this year.

"Well I heard that they play trumpets when the sun rises, so I think that would be kind of cool," she said.

Most people said the trumpet music is their favorite part.

And they said this year, the music and the sunrise did not disappoint.
