Drury Program Helps Artists Emerge from Missouri Hotel

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The artists do not have homes, but their artwork does.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The artists do not have homes, but their artwork does.

The exhibit features pieces from people staying at Springfield’s Missouri hotel, a shelter for those in need.

With the help of Drury students, the artists took a two-week class that allowed them to express themselves.

It builds more than self-esteem; it builds a sense of community.

"Even though I'm homeless I still have family in the community, and I may not have met them yet, but through this art, I met a sister or a niece,” says Missouri Hotel resident Mildred Yanez.

This year's theme is "Don't Stop Believing." The Drury program is now in its 14th year.
