In 2007, bald eagles were removed from the list of endangered species.

Because the bald eagle is our nation's bird and symbolizes freedom, zoo officials think this is one of the best ways to celebrate Veteran's Day.

"We've had her at the Veterans Home in Mount Vernon and many times the veterans come to tears when they see her," said Pam Price, Dickerson Park Zoo.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service estimates there are almost 10,000 nesting pairs of bald eagles in the United States.
