LAMPE, Mo. – A Lampe couple received an early wedding surprise Monday night: a nest full of copperhead snakes. Seven of them to be exact.

Andrew Ware was working underneath his house Monday night and had just climbed out, when a neighbor spotted a copperhead at the entrance.

The two men looked around and found more snakes; three in the trees, three on the ground - and one climbing up the side of the house.

They ranged anywhere from 9 inches to 3-and-a-half feet in length.

Ware says he killed them all with a knife.

He says during the six years he's lived at the home, he's found the occasional black snake, but never copperheads.

His fiancé, Ash-lee Parker, says the kids are no longer allowed in the backyard, and she's not going back there either.

“I was nervous,” says Ash-lee. “So I stayed inside the whole time, come out once and a while to make sure he didn't get bit. It wasn't too bad, but I didn't want to go out there."

At one point, Ware says the snakes got a little too close for comfort.

“I was trying to catch the first one because I could take it down to the lake,” says Ware. “And then all of a sudden my neighbor is telling me they’re all over, above me."

No one was hurt and Ware says he'll be doing some additional yard work soon.
