SPRINGFIELD, Mo.-- The Springfield Police Department is in pursuit of community support with the 1st annual Foot Pursuit 5K and 8K Mar. 15.

The 1st Annual Foot Pursuit 5K and 8K race was coordinated by the Springfield Police Department and the Missouri Fraternal Order of Police to raise awareness for local organizations in need and community safety.

All proceeds from the event will benefit The Salvation Army, SWI Industrial Solutions (formally Springfield Workshop), and the Missouri Fraternal Order of Police Foundation.

“It takes us working together and looking out for one another to make Springfield a safe place to live and work,” said Mike Evans, President of the Police Officer’s Association. “It truly is a community effort to effectively reduce crime and increase safety.

The race is centered on family friendly fun and featured the "Donut Dash", a cops and robbers obstacle course, and a display of public safety vehicles.

“Overall though this event is a good time,” Evans said. “It’s about getting the community together for some good old-fashioned family friendly fun.”
