David Letterman's heir apparent dropped in to pay the late night talk host a visit on CBS' the "Late Show" Tuesday night (4/22).

Stephen Colbert got a glimpse of what will be his new gig when he takes over from Letterman as host of the "Late Show."

Colbert brought his wit along for the visit, delivering a top ten list he penned with a collegue 17 years ago, when the show was looking to hire new writers.  Colbert said he had already gotten another job when he finally got the call from "Late Show" executives four months later.

Colbert revealed he also got hired as an intern for the show back in 1996, but turned down the position because there was no pay for the gig.

The funny man says his current show, "The Colbert Report" is slated to continue until l the end of the year. He is expected to take over from Letterman some time in 2015.
