Clean Up Underway After Tornado in St. Louis Area

ST. CHARLES, Mo. -- Severe spring storms slammed the St. Louis area,  leaving quite a mess for homeowners.

"The house has been better. Structurally it's pretty sound. But it tore the roof off, tore the siding off and threw everything around in the yard."

The small tornado that blew through here gave Bob Axetell the skylight he never wanted.

"I looked up through the attic and seen daylight and I knew something wasn't right."

Recently Axetell has had a streak of bad luck including a back injury and now storm damage.

The crew in his backyard Sunday had been working for hours.

"Getting the debris out of the way, get the roof tarped up. This one had plywood missing so we had to put plywood in before we tarped it."

But they didn't wait for a call from Axetell to come help.   John Nickeson and Bob Axetell have been friends for 15 years. It just so happens Nickeson works for a contractor and has access to the tools to help his buddy out of a jam.

"He hadn't come along I don't know what I would've done. I mean none of this would be done yet, not even close," Axtell says.

Storms have kept nickeson and his crew very busy in this area over the last day and the last few years.

"It seems like every year it's getting worse and worse. We're having them at least one or two, maybe even four or five events if you count straight line winds."

But not too busy to help a friend in need.

"He absolutely saved me no question about it. Really when it boils down to it good friend will bail you out every time," says Axtell.
