APLENA, Ark. -- Investigators in Boone County, Arkansas, are looking into what could have been an attempted child abduction. It happened near Alpena Wednesday afternoon.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office says two young girls were playing outside when a man in SUV pulled up and parked for an extended time.

The girls told the sheriff's office they felt uncomfortable, so they went to a local gas station.

After the SUV showed up there, they contacted law enforcement.

Boone County Sheriff Mike Moore says the girls are fine, but the department has pulled video surveillance while looking into the matter.

"Protecting our innocence, children and elderly is our top priority; any time we suspect something is going on we're going to follow through and were going to be thorough,” he says. “Because if there is a child predator out there we want to make contact with those people, we want to take care of business."

Moore says a similar incident also took place in Madison County this week, but his office does not believe the two incidents are connected.
