Bill Would Help Inmates Get Married

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- A bill in the Missouri legislature could make it easier for inmates to get married.
JEFFERSON CITY,  Mo. -- A bill in the Missouri legislature could make it easier for inmates to get married.

Sen. Mike Parson (R-Dist. 28) of Bolivar is sponsoring the bill.  Parson is a former sheriff in Polk County.

Currently, both people in the marriage have to give an application to the recorder of deeds in person.

The new bill would create an exception allowing a marriage license to be issued if one of the applicants is incarcerated and unable to appear in person.

The bill passed in the Senate and is now pending in the house.
